The airport in 1987
Iconic photographer Shirley Baker spent a day at the airport in 1987 capturing the experiences of travellers.
Born in Salford, Baker was famed for her street photography of working class inner-city areas.
The collection will go on display in Manchester Central Library from October. The special exhibition will mark 30 years since the photos were taken, as the airport embarks on its £1bn investment programme that will ‘transform the passenger experience’.
The images give a fascinating insight into how different going on your holiday was in the 1980s.
The exhibition will run from October 5 at Manchester Central Library. Opening times, Monday to Thursday are 9am to 8pm and 9am to 5pm Friday and Saturday.
